Not an Insane Thought-MULLAPERIYAR

Mullaperiyar Dam is a masonry gravity dam on the Periyar. The name Mullaperiyar is derived from the sister rivers of Mullayar and Periyar. It is made with lime stone and surkhi , an archaiced construction technology of 19th century. In 1882, the construction of the dam was approved and John Pennycuick designed and carried out it. Eventhough the dam and the river are fully owned by and located in Kerala, the dam is controlled and operated on a period lease by Tamil Nadu.a lease indenture for 999 years was made between Maharaja of Travancore.Later the agreement was renewed in 1970 when C Achutha Menon was Kerala Chief Minister. The safety of the dam has been a matter of concern and a point of dispute between Kerala and Tamil Nadu.So am coming to the geography of mullaperiyar dam area.
9° 31′ 43″ N77° 8′ 39″ E
9.52861177.144167,is the location of Mullaperiyar Dam .
The Down stream of Mullaperiyar is highly populated area with about 3000 immediate inhabitants.Am quoting some of Questions which I seened in Social Media World.

1|
The Grand Anicut, also known as the Kallanai
built by the Chola king in 2nd Century AD is still functional and people there are not fear abt Dam.

$ My answer is Compairing  Kallanai with Mullaperiyar is absolutely nonsense.Grant Anicut is build of unhewn stone, which is the common architect manner in AD 2ed Century.U can see that method in many ancient temple across the world. While Mullaperiyar is a GRAVITY dam build with surki, Gravity dam structure are like a plane balanced in pivot point. Here balancing forces are dam's weight and gravity. As years passing this surki will tearoff from the structure, and can create unbalanced structure. My second point can be viewed from thats pictures.See the height of elevation of both dams from see level.

When the height of elevation increases , the pressure of water increases so the flow of water if it breaks. Hope u get what i mean by nonsense.

2| Even if mullaperiyar Dam breaks , IDUKKI dam can hold water from mullaperiyar.

$ First we have to understand how far this mullaperiyar and idukki dam,its Abt 60KM ,across it have approximately 1 lakh populated area.So even if idukki can hold water, will create lots of Damage to way of  idukki. Not only people also destroy the natural inhabits across the path. Now am moving into the technicality, IDUKKI can hold this much water only when it flow through the spillway. Here on dam burst, water wont be follow this path to reach idukki.

From the picture u can find the path to idukki
A.Mullaperiyar B.Idukki dam C. Cheruthoni D.Kulamavu, Only  cheruthoni dam have shutters to flow water from dam. When a dam burst, the water will carry all along the path, and there will create a possible chance of blockage in dam shutters and hence burst Cheruthoni dam, result be chaos. Some says it Will take hours to reach idukki, from studies i find, the minimum speed of the breaking water 100km/hr, so it Will take less than 1 hour to reach
idukki.
